So one thing I realized from watching TOS is that they most definitely toned down the sexual aspects of the Trekverse for TNG. Like, if the original Enterprise had a holodeck, you could bet good latinum that people were using it to ~let off some steam~ from being in space for months on end. The holodecks on TNG are used for wholesome entertainment like holonovels and kayaking and just all-around good, clean fun – but never sex! Gasp! It only took some non-Federation holosuites run by a particular scrupulous Ferengi for modern Trek to admit that a good chunk of holoprograms were more like Vulcan Love Slave pt. III than Dixon Hill.
