okay i talk about the same three things every time someone brings up ch’boy, so i am going to try to stay away from those hcs this time… but just know…… kravitz……… he’s keats. it is griffin who is wrong about this character, who he created, with his mind.
1. the raven queen has more than one reaper. she’s gotta, right? like okay, kravitz’s job is specifically stated to be taking care of the edge cases. ppl who belong in the eternal stockade. right?? is this canon?? i don’t remember anymore, everything is a blur. how many edge cases are there, like, statistically speaking?? can kravitz handle ‘em on on his own??
so anyways the grim reaper is more than just a cool nickname, that’s like, his formal title. the “grim” is a very important distinction. he’s like, head reaper in the material plane. there are people who work below him on the food chain, like lup and barry, but there’s also a grim reaper for each plane of existence, and he’s the manager of this one. lup and barry report to him, and he reports to the raven queen directly.
2. now that i’ve said that i wonder if he’s exaggerated his job to taako to make himself look cool. before story and song he’s like, oh yeah, i hunt down bad guys like, every day. all the time. they’re everywhere. i’m a very busy man. my job is very dangerous. please. be impressed.
meanwhile in reality most of what he does is like, shifts at the eternal stockade and paperwork. the astral plane is one big bureaucracy. that whole shtick in the crystal kingdom was the highlight of his month.
(lup is displeased to learn that her new job is not merkin’ bad guys 100% of the time)
3. this is a dude that’s very conscious of his appearance. it’s hard not to be, when your body is a construct you can (probably?) alter at will. kravitz wears three-piece suits every day! he’s vain. he preens. I REALLY LIKE WHEN PEOPLE MAKE HIM ALL BIRD-Y.
the raven queen gives him sparkly jewelry sometimes as a reward for working hard. he nabs shit off his bounties if they were particularly fashionable. it’s fine. they don’t need it where they’re going. it’s fine. he hoards it all, over several centuries, forever. when he eventually moves in with taako their home is going to be an absolute disaster. just, useless but pretty junk, everywhere.
I’M REALIZING THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY LONG POST, I’M SO SORRY. I’M NOT EVEN HALFWAY DONE. GOD.
