AU in which Jim never joined Starfleet and he’s at Yorktown as a civilian when he sees Spock for the first time. His best friend tries to reason with him, but Jim’s already got a crush on the intriguing Starfleet Officer. For his part, Spock has no idea why anyone would want to hang around him, especially this handsome culturally-sensitive intelligent human who takes him to Yorktown’s museums and libraries and computer labs, randomly stops mid-stride to point out the geometry of the architecture, and occasionally breaks into passionate soliloquies about space exploration. When Spock gets awkwardly shy and reverts to talking about algebraic equations (the way other people talk about weather) Jim treats it like a legitimate conversation topic and they talk math to each other for hours, regardless of the people staring.

two nerds find each other in space, or Jim ignores perfectly good advice and lives happily ever after, really Bones ships it, he’s just looking out for that weird friend of his who is currently building a miniature of Yorktown, wants to make sure no one breaks his heart, but Spock is equally geekily weird, and when Bones visits Jim and finds Spock gluing little buildings on to the miniature, he knows it’s all good, Pike probably steps in too and gives his fatherly approval,  Space dad approves of spirk, the entire crew approves, they are begging Jim to join Starfleet already (@quietoceanlove)
