i think what would’ve made supernatural so much more eerie is if they hadn’t put in the flashback to 1983 at the beginning of the pilot. we would have just… had to slowly figure it out ourselves. i mean, the scene with dean breaking into sam’s apartment, and the “dad’s on a hunting trip and hasn’t been home in a few days,” the “when i told dad i was scared of the thing in my closet he gave me a .45,” dean’s explosive reaction to sam talking about their mom– the creep factor would have skyrocketed because we wouldn’t have the pieces put together yet.  

This…is an interesting idea. What if you watched every episode without the cold open (OR the recap). Just…jumped in to the case like Sam and Dean often do-with minimal information…
