It’s wild how like… JKR is so skilled at so many aspects of writing, especially in little character moments, but when it comes to implications of throwaway lines she just… not a SINGLE thought.
Like in Chamber of Secrets, when Harry is talking to Tom / Voldemort and is like, you Framed Hagrid, Tom is like, yeah he was always trying to raise monsters,
he says that Hagrid tried to raise werewolf cubs under his bed like…
oh you mean like, children? like human children?
this FEELS like something hagrid would do tho
I just got this extremely vivid brain-picture of little (big) 11 year old Hagrid at Hogwarts, and he doesn’t really know all that much about creatures but he’s lonely and people thinks he’s weird and he’s still always out in the Forbidden Forest breaking curfew
and of COUrSe when he finds some giant snarly puppies he is going to take them home
of cOUrSE he is gonna hide them under his bed in the dormitory and pet them and feed them scraps and not mind at all that they keep trying to bite his limbs off
and of COuRSE when they turn back to lil wizard children in the morning he is not gonna hold it against them
what he will do is shed manly 11-year-old tears as he says goodbye, and tell Fluffers and Puffball that he loves ‘em dearly and to be a good boy and girl for their parents and grow up safe and stay out of the full moon oh and he almost forgot here’s Fluffer’s chewtoy to take with her, it’s ‘er favorite oh he’s going to miss ‘em so much
